cut-out black + givenchy antigona

All black everything.

For some people, wearing all black is depressing, boring or too minimal. I beg to disagree. It's not only functional (what are stains?), but understated chic. There's a way to keep it monochromatic without looking like you're attending someone's funeral.

Texture play.
There are hundreds of different textures to keep an eye out for when finding and styling black pieces. Exotic leathers (crocodile, snakeskin), furs, calf/lambskin leather, rayon, cotton and spandex. Each piece has a different shine, sheen and fit, making each piece unique - even if it's on the same end of the grayscale spectrum.

Unexpected cuts.
For ultimate edge, I look for unexpected cuts in structure and silhouette. A wrap skirt with asymmetrical hemline is a form-flattering surprise. A basic button-down top can become a one-of-a-kind piece when plastic triangles replace the traditional rayon fabric near the shoulders. Cut-out boots are still the rage. Pops of skin are welcoming - take a basic black outfit and transform it effortlessly.

cruella deville

I added a splash of red to my usual monochromatic color palette, touched up with hints of gold. I found this amazing, amazing silk blouse in a neighborhood vintage shop and fell in love instantly. The sheer sleeves, deep drape and structured shoulders are a perfectly romantic complement to an edgy, asymmetrical skirt.
